We hope all join in our positive thoughts and love for our Kat Bradley as she battles her way back from illness, and look forward to her being able to make music with us again as soon as she can

SWO is appearing on the June 6 “first thursday” at 6:30 pm unplugged on the sidewalk in front of the Hampton Street Vineyard (inside if rain)

SWO will be playing at Tombo Grille on June 24 at 7pm.

About the band:

We are 5 dedicated musicians and half of us have day jobs.     Although between us, we have been involved in literally scores of different musical groups over the years of all shapes and sizes, we love to play music together in this configuration and have been together about 7 years.   We have no manager, and no regular soundman, but close to 100 years of performing experience between us. This band is just as happy playing in a small room as on a big stage, but we definitely are at our best when playing for for an audience.

A description of our music:

We have been described as “eclectic acoustic.”  Slap Wore Out likes to think of itself as musically flexible, and generally wants to play what we think people like us might like to hear, if we think we can do it justice, but we don’t want to be prisoners of any particular genre, constantly providing variety and contrast, but still staying within our beloved earthy, acoustic instruments.  We don’t get bored and we don’t want to bore.  Our song list changes every gig, and it’s hard to describe –  if you want a band that basically plays one type of music, we are probably not the right group, because we play a little bit of folk, bluegrass, rock, blues, pop, country, Americana, alt-anything and “other,”   Some of the music are songs that we have written, and the rest ranges from songs of uncertain origin to songs, both popular and lesser-known, springing from every decade of the last couple hundred years in America –  for instance, last rehearsal, we worked on a rock song from the 70s, a pop song from the 80s, a couple silly Christmas songs and we worked up a medley, marrying a 60′s soul song with a rocker from a recent TV beer commercial.

Mike, Debbie, Jack, Kat and Rob take the greatest pleasure and energy from a live, acoustic music experience, and we hope to give that pleasure to the audience.  We do have pride in our musical product, but without taking ourselves or our music too seriously.  We do whatever we do on all-acoustic instruments, and the band members switch around a lot on vocals and instruments, from song to song.  We feature resophonic slide guitar (dobro), standup bass, guitar, mandolin, accordion, fiddle, and various rhythm instruments, including the trademark slapworeout cardboard box.
